Common questions

Know what applies to your filing.

When is Form 2290 due?

Generally, by the last day of the month following the month the vehicle was first used on a public highway. If the deadline falls on a weekend or legal holiday, it moves to the next business day.

What if my vehicle has low mileage?

Tax suspension may apply if expected use is no more than 5,000 miles during the tax period, or 7,500 miles for qualifying agricultural vehicles. You must still file and monitor mileage.

Is Form 2290 the same as IFTA?

No. Form 2290 reports federal heavy highway vehicle use tax. IFTA is a separate fuel-use tax reporting program, generally filed quarterly. We can help you identify which service you need.
