Quick answers
Let’s clear things up.
Are EIN and FEIN the same thing?
Yes. FEIN means Federal Employer Identification Number; EIN is the IRS term for this nine-digit federal business tax ID. An ITIN is a different tax number for individuals.
Does an EIN create my LLC or S Corp?
No. An EIN identifies your business for federal tax purposes. State formation and an S corporation tax election are separate steps. Explore our legal entity services for related support.
What if I already have an EIN?
Tell us before applying. A new EIN is not automatically needed for every change. We can review your request and help identify the appropriate next step.
How long does it take?
Timing depends on eligibility, the application method, and IRS processing. We explain the expected next steps after reviewing your situation; issuance is determined by the IRS.
